An Elegant London Evening: Cocktails at 34 & Dinner at Scott’s, Mayfair
Some dining experiences are more than just a meal, they’re an entire evening to remember. Our night in Mayfair began with a small twist: arriving early for our reservation at Scott’s, we were warmly guided around the corner to their stylish sister restaurant, 34.
There, at the bar, we started with Old Cubano cocktails! A refined blend of Ron Santiago de Cuba Extra Añejo 11-year rum, burnt coffee infusion, French orange liqueur, and vanilla. Rich, smooth, and perfectly balanced, it was the kind of cocktail you sip slowly, knowing it’s setting the tone for a great evening ahead.
When our table at Scott’s was ready, we stepped into one of London’s most elegant dining rooms, where timeless sophistication meets relaxed warmth.
We began with the sea bass and tuna ceviche, delicate cubes of fish dressed in vibrant aji amarillo, with sweet mango and crisp fried plantain adding tropical brightness and crunch. A fresh, colourful start that promised good things to come.
For our mains, the seafood shone as expected. The crispy-skinned sea bass arrived in a light broth with artichoke, greens, and roasted red peppers. It was a dish that was both delicate and deeply flavourful. The John Dory was equally outstanding, pan-fried to golden perfection and finished simply with lemon-butter and parsley, allowing its naturally rich, sweet flavour to take centre stage.
Our sides complemented the mains beautifully: green beans with a subtle tomato relish for a fresh note, and roasted carrots topped with a cloud of mascarpone and sprinkled with aromatic seeds for a touch of earthy sweetness.
We paired it all with a bottle of 2022 Monsanto Chianti Classico, decanted tableside. Its smooth, structured character tied the meal together beautifully!
