When It’s More Than a Disagreement About a House

When It’s More Than a Disagreement About a House

Last Monday night, The Graff Group and Benmor Family Law Group were proud to host and sponsor the DCAO Film Night on intimate partner violence and coercive control.

It was a powerful reminder that abuse isn’t always a bruise. It can be control, isolation, financial restriction or intimidation.

At almost the same time, the Cornell allegations were back in the headlines. While that case is not about intimate partner violence and is still being reinvestigated, it raises the same questions about how we recognize harm, consent and power.

In real estate, I sometimes meet people when a relationship is ending and the matrimonial home needs to be dealt with. What looks like a disagreement about a house may be part of a much bigger dynamic.

Awareness doesn’t mean assuming we know someone’s story. It means knowing enough to recognize there may be more to it.

Thank you again to our panelists deepamattoo, @anna_matas_law, @leannetownsendlife, our moderator @stevebenmor, and @divorce_coaches_association for an important evening.
