A Home Can Sell in Five Days or Less. A Relationship Can’t Be Built That Fast.

A Home Can Sell in Five Days or Less. A Relationship Can’t Be Built That Fast.

As I sat down to write this, it felt especially appropriate.

Just a few days ago, Cheryl and I sold 23 Pinnacle Rd. firm and received the offer only 5 days after it hit the market.

To someone scrolling through social media, it probably looks like another quick success story.

But the people who know us best usually smile when they see those posts.

They know the sale didn’t happen in five days.

The transaction did.

The relationship took decades.

Trust is the only part of our business that can’t be rushed.

That’s the part social media rarely shows.

It doesn’t show the dinners, coffees, phone calls, community events, introductions, educational seminars, handwritten notes, check-ins, or the countless conversations where there wasn’t a transaction to be had at all.

It doesn’t show the years spent earning trust.

Many of our clients first meet us years before they ever buy or sell a home. Others are introduced by past clients, lawyers, financial advisors, or friends who have known us for decades. By the time a home goes on the market, we’ve often already built a relationship that extends far beyond real estate.

That is something Cheryl and I have always believed in.

We’re not simply in the transaction business.

We’re in the trust business. Real estate is simply the vehicle through which we serve our clients.

The home sale is just one chapter in a much longer story.

This experience also made me think about artificial intelligence.

Like many professionals, we have embraced AI. We use it to organize our thoughts, improve our writing, research ideas, and become more efficient. It’s an incredible tool, and we believe those who learn to use it well will become even better at what they do.

But AI didn’t earn the trust of the family navigating a difficult downsizing or divorce

AI wasn’t sitting at a kitchen table helping aging parents decide whether it was finally time to downsize after forty years in the family home.

AI didn’t spend years building relationships with lawyers, financial planners, mortgage professionals, contractors, organizers, movers, estate trustees, and past clients who now confidently introduce us to the people they care about most.

Technology can help us work smarter.

But it can’t replace the feeling of knowing someone genuinely has your best interests at heart.

Whether you’re a realtor, lawyer, physician, accountant, financial advisor, or business owner, we believe the strongest businesses are still built the same way they always have been:

One conversation.

One promise kept.

One relationship at a time.

So the next time you see a post that says, “Sold in three days,” remember that you’re only seeing the final chapter.

The real story began years earlier.

And while AI will continue to change the way we work, we hope it never changes the way we connect.

Because if we ever stop investing in people, we’ll all be living in a much colder, more disconnected world.

That’s certainly not the kind of world Cheryl and I want to help build.

We’d much rather continue building relationships the way we always have…one conversation, one family, and one relationship at a time.

In a world moving faster every day, are relationships becoming more valuable—or more overlooked? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
