Is It Worth It To Renovate Before Selling?
Let’s talk about renovations and divorce.
I recently read an article suggesting that divorcing couples should renovate before selling to increase their return.
While that may sound smart in theory, in reality for most couples I work with it can add more conflict, more delay, and more cost to an already emotional process.
When two people are already struggling to agree on price, timing, or possession dates, introducing decisions about flooring, paint, or countertops can make things even harder… and often eats into any potential profit.
Unless the separation is truly amicable and both parties are aligned, I’ve found that a clean, well-prepared listing priced strategically in today’s market brings far better results, financially and emotionally.
Because at the end of the day, the goal isn’t just to sell the house.
It’s to help both partners move forward with less stress, fewer arguments, and a stronger financial start to their next chapter.
